More rains expected in Chennai city this week

On Sunday, 16th September 2018, many parts of Chennai received rains in the evening time. This pattern of late evening rains and rains in the early morning would be present in Chennai. It is now revealed that after an extended dry weather in Chennai, the city would experience thunder storms and rainfall over the next week. A cyclonic circulation has been concentrated over the East Central Bay of Bengal. This has been responsible for the weather change. This was confirmed by the officials of meteorological department. It is important to mention that the presence of trough from the cyclonic circulation would be playing its part in the Chennai city getting more rainfall. Certain parts belonging to north Tamil Nadu districts would also receive rainfall.
According to Mr. Balachandran, deputy director general of meteorology, RMC, spike in the thunderstorm would be caused due to the upper air cyclonic circulation. This would lead to the rainfall activity in the north as well as in the interior parts of TN. He further added that the city of Chennai would get rainfall in the whole week.
It is known that in the last one week places such as Virudhunagar, Vellore, Thiruvannamalai and Namakkal have received rains. It is clear that this rain would spread to other districts also.
Popular weather blogger, Mr. Pradeep John expressed his views. He spoke about how a rare cyclone is brewing in the Bay of Bengal and how TN coast would not be affected by this. He then spoke about how this cyclone would be going to Andhra and Odisha. There were heavy rains in Chennai city on Sunday and the meteorological office recorded 8mm rain from 8:30am till evening. Regular convective clouds were responsible for the rains. Between 12:30am and 2:30 am, Chennai city recorded 2 mm of rainfall and the rainfall was heaviest around the time of 2:30 pm. One important piece of news is Puzhal (Redhills) received hail storms on Sunday and this surprised many. Highest rainfall of 54mm was recorded in the Puzhal on Sunday. Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district in TN recorded highest rainfall of 13cm. This was based on the rainfall that was recorded in the last 24 hours ending 8:30 am on Sunday.
