According to Mr. Kulshreshtra General Manager of Southern Railways, there are many passenger-friendly initiatives that zone would be carrying out and this new train service would be one such. He later spoke about how this 12 car trains would be run like a shuttle between the stations MMC and Avadi. Currently 9 car rakes are being used in this section and this new 12 car rakes would ease the overcrowding that is present in the peak hours.
It is now said that this move comes at a time when trains are in huge demand as the passengers have started using trains more for their transportation due to increase in bus fares. Mr Kulshreshtra further added that presently there are as many as 23 suburban trains now.
He hinted that next week three phase 12 car EMU on the popular Beach-Tambaram route would be launched and these trains would have superb LED lightings plus passenger information system. The three phase trains would be manufactured at ICF.
