Chennai has taken a green leap forward with the launch of the HTWO Innovation Centre, a collaboration between Hyundai Motor, IIT‑Madras, and the Tamil Nadu government. With a ₹100 crore investment from Hyundai and strong state support, the 65,000 sq ft facility at IIT‑Madras’s Thaiyur campus will house laboratories for electrolysers, fuel cells, pilot‑scale infrastructure, and digital twin simulations—a major step toward indigenising clean hydrogen technology.
This centre aligns with India’s strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070 and will foster collaboration with small-scale industries. It is expected to reduce dependency on imported tech and accelerate innovation in hydrogen fuel solutions, potentially positioning Chennai as a clean-energy hub in South Asia.
