As part of global cost-cutting and AI-driven restructuring efforts, Amazon India is expected to lay off between 800-1,000 employees in the corporate/tech side. These job cuts reflect a larger trend of tech companies worldwide recalibrating workforce needs, especially as automation and AI become more central. The Indian tech-ecosystem is not immune to these global macro pressures.
For India, the impact will be two-fold: on one hand, it signals caution in the tech jobs market and the need for upskilling; on the other hand, it may push more talent into startups, AI-specialties or engineering roles with higher value-add. Policymakers, businesses and educational institutions must align so that the Indian workforce remains resilient and future-ready.
