⏱️ Prep Time: 15 mins | Cook Time: 30 mins
🍽️ Serves: 3–4 people
🧾 Ingredients:
- Akhrot (Walnuts) – 1 cup
- Milk – 1½ cups
- Sugar – ½ cup (adjust to taste)
- Ghee – 3 tbsp
- Cardamom powder – ½ tsp
- Saffron strands – a few (optional)
- Chopped almonds / pistachios – 2 tbsp (optional)
- Warm water – for soaking
👩🍳 Method:
- Soak & grind walnuts
Soak walnuts in warm water for 30 minutes. Drain and grind into a coarse paste using little milk. - Cook the walnut paste
Heat 2 tbsp ghee in a heavy-bottom pan. Add the walnut paste and sauté on low flame for 8–10 minutes, stirring continuously until the raw smell disappears. - Add milk
Slowly add the remaining milk and cook, stirring often, until the mixture thickens and starts leaving the sides of the pan. - Sweeten the halwa
Add sugar and mix well. The halwa will loosen slightly—continue cooking until it thickens again. - Flavor & finish
Add cardamom powder, saffron strands, and remaining 1 tbsp ghee. Mix well and cook for 2–3 more minutes. - Garnish & serve
Garnish with chopped nuts and serve hot or warm.
🌟 Tips:
- Use low flame to avoid bitterness.
- Jaggery can replace sugar (add after cooling slightly).
- For richer taste, replace milk with half milk + half water like traditional halwas.
💪 Why it’s perfect for winter:
Akhrot halwa is rich in healthy fats, omega-3, and energy, making it ideal for cold weather and post-meal warmth.
