1. Choose the Right Onions
✅ Pick firm, dry onions with papery skin.
❌ Avoid soft, sprouting, or bruised ones — they spoil faster.
2. Keep Them Cool, Dry & Dark
Store onions in a well-ventilated, dark place (like a pantry or cupboard).
Ideal temperature: 10–15°C (50–60°F) — not in the fridge!
3. Use a Mesh Bag or Basket
Avoid plastic bags. Use mesh/net bags, paper bags with holes, or open baskets so air can circulate and prevent moisture buildup.
4. Separate from Potatoes
Never store onions and potatoes together! 🥔
They release moisture and gases that make each other spoil faster.
5. Check Regularly
Inspect your stored onions every week. Remove any that show signs of mold, softness, or sprouting to prevent others from spoiling.
6. Freeze or Dehydrate for Long-Term Storage
Chop and freeze onions in zip-lock bags (for cooking use only).
Or dehydrate slices and store in airtight jars for several months.
