There are discussions in the tech world about whether Apple will start manufacturing its iPhones entirely in the United States, following political pressure from former U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump has repeatedly emphasized that American companies should make their products within the country to boost jobs and the economy.
Currently, most iPhones are made in countries like China and India, which allows Apple to keep production costs relatively low. However, moving production entirely to the U.S. would mean higher labor costs, expensive infrastructure, and increased operational expenses.
Analysts suggest that if Apple shifts all production to the U.S., the manufacturing costs could rise significantly, potentially pushing the price of an iPhone to around ₹3.5 lakh in India. This is because of higher wages, stricter labor laws, and more expensive supply chains compared to Asian manufacturing hubs.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has so far tried to balance political demands with business practicality, keeping most of the production overseas while increasing U.S. investments in certain high-tech components. The big question is whether Apple will fully give in to Trump’s “Made in America” push — and whether consumers would pay such a steep price for a domestically made iPhone.
