📌 Details:
Google has developed an Earthquake Alert System that turns millions of Android phones into mini seismometers to detect early tremors and alert users before the quake hits.
⚙️ How It Works:
- Android phones have accelerometers that sense motion.
- When many phones detect sudden ground shaking at the same time, they send signals to Google’s server.
- Google analyzes the data to determine the location and strength of the earthquake.
- If confirmed, a real-time warning alert is pushed to nearby Android users seconds before shaking reaches them.
✅ Benefits:
- Can provide life-saving seconds to take cover.
- Helps emergency services and public safety officials respond quickly.
- Works even without dedicated seismic sensors in all regions.
🌐 Availability:
- Initially launched in California, now available in many countries including India.
- Works on Android 5.0 (Lollipop) and above.
🛠️ To Enable the Feature:
- Open Settings on your Android phone.
- Go to Safety & emergency > Earthquake alerts.
- Toggle the switch to turn it ON.
