India Achieves Major Milestone in Renewable Energy Growth for FY 2024–25

The Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has announced a remarkable achievement in the country’s clean energy transition, with 29.52 GW of renewable energy capacity added during the 2024–2025 financial year. This progress marks a significant step toward India’s ambitious goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based energy capacity by 2030.

⚡ Solar Power Leads the Charge

Solar energy continues to dominate India’s renewable landscape with an impressive 24 GW added in FY 2024–25, taking the total solar capacity to 106 GW. This includes:

  • 81 GW from large-scale, ground-mounted projects
  • 17 GW from rooftop solar systems
  • 2.9 GW from hybrid solar installations
  • 4.7 GW from off-grid solar setups

🌬️ Wind and Other Renewables on the Rise

India’s wind energy sector also gained momentum, adding 4.15 GW (up from 3 GW in FY 2023–24), raising the total installed capacity to 50 GW.

In addition:

  • Biomass capacity saw a boost of nearly 12 GW, including 0.53 GW from off-grid and waste-to-energy solutions
  • Small hydro grew by 5.1 GW, with an additional 440 MW currently in the pipeline

🔧 A Robust Pipeline for the Future

India’s renewable energy future looks strong, with:

  • 169 GW of projects under implementation
  • 65 GW already tendered
  • Approximately 65 GW dedicated to next-generation technologies such as:
    • Hybrid energy systems
    • Round-the-clock (RTC) power
    • Peaking power solutions
    • Thermal-renewable bundling

🌍 Towards a Greener Tomorrow

India’s consistent push for renewable energy reflects its commitment to sustainability, energy security, and global climate goals. With strong policy support, innovation, and investment, the country is on track to become a global leader in clean energy.
