🍗🌱 Cherupayar Chicken Delight – A Protein-Packed Flavor Combo!

📝 Recipe: Green Gram (Cherupayar) and Chicken Curry

🧂 Ingredients:

  • Chicken – 250g (small pieces)
  • Green gram (Cherupayar) – ½ cup (soaked for 2–3 hours)
  • Onion – 1 large (sliced)
  • Tomato – 1 (chopped)
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  • Green chili – 1 (slit)
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1½ tsp
  • Garam masala – ½ tsp
  • Chili powder – 1 tsp (adjust to taste)
  • Curry leaves – a few
  • Coconut oil – 1½ tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Water – as needed

👩‍🍳 Preparation Steps:

  1. Pressure Cook Cherupayar:
    Cook the soaked green gram with a pinch of turmeric and salt – 2 whistles.
  2. Marinate Chicken (Optional):
    Mix chicken with turmeric, chili powder, and salt. Set aside for 15 minutes.
  3. Sauté Base Masala:
    In a pan, heat coconut oil. Add mustard seeds, let them splutter.
    Add onion, green chili, curry leaves, and sauté till golden.
    Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté until raw smell goes.
  4. Add Tomatoes & Spices:
    Add chopped tomatoes. Once soft, add coriander powder, chili powder, and garam masala.
  5. Cook Chicken:
    Add marinated chicken and stir well. Cook covered for 10–12 mins, add water if needed.
  6. Add Cooked Green Gram:
    Once chicken is cooked, add the pressure-cooked cherupayar.
    Mix well and simmer for 5 minutes. Adjust salt.
  7. Finish:
    Garnish with fresh curry leaves. Serve hot.
