Dr. Kamini Singh, a horticulture scientist from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, transformed a modest ₹9 lakh investment into a thriving ₹1.75 crore annual turnover business through her venture, Dr. Moringa Pvt. Ltd. After resigning from her government position at the Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH) in 2015, she embarked on a mission to empower farmers via sustainable moringa cultivation.
In 2017, Dr. Singh initiated a pilot project with ten farmers, promoting moringa as a low-maintenance crop suitable for intercropping. The success of this initiative led to the formal establishment of Dr. Moringa Pvt. Ltd. in 2019. Starting with basic processing equipment, she began producing moringa powder, eventually expanding her product line to include teas, oils, capsules, soaps, and more.
A significant boost came in 2020 when she secured a ₹25 lakh grant from the RKVY RAFTAAR Agri-Business Incubator at IIT (BHU), enabling her to scale operations and diversify her product offerings. Today, Dr. Moringa Pvt. Ltd. boasts 22 value-added moringa products and collaborates with over 1,050 farmers in Uttar Pradesh, enhancing their incomes and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
Dr. Singh’s journey exemplifies how scientific expertise, when combined with entrepreneurial spirit, can drive grassroots change and create impactful, sustainable business models.
