The Karnataka government has taken a forward-looking step to support tech innovation by enabling a regulatory sandbox framework under the Karnataka Innovation Act. This new mechanism will allow startups, researchers, and tech firms to test emerging technologies in a controlled environment, even if existing regulations would normally restrict such trials. The sandbox is designed to balance innovation with safety — providing regulatory oversight while giving innovators the flexibility to refine products and solutions before wider market launches.
This initiative positions Karnataka — already a leading technology hub in India — as a pioneer in responsible tech growth and experimentation. By facilitating real-world testing with moderated compliance requirements, the sandbox could accelerate breakthroughs in domains like IoT, blockchain, robotics, renewable tech, and smart infrastructure. If successful, it may inspire similar frameworks across other states, strengthening India’s national innovation ecosystem.
