Starting July 1, CESC is making smart electricity meters mandatory for all new connections across parts of Karnataka. At around ₹5,000 per unit, these meters enable accurate billing, real‑time energy tracking, and offer choices like prepaid or postpaid billing. They’re also equipped to curb power theft and reduce human billing errors, aligning with national smart grid goals.
This rollout represents a significant leap towards a digitised power sector—promoting energy efficiency and transparency. Consumers gain insight into their usage patterns, while the grid benefits from faster fault detection and supply management. An upcoming CESC awareness session in Mysuru highlights the importance of public readiness as tech becomes integral to everyday services.
