In a milestone for Indian space innovation, Skyroot Aerospace successfully launched Vikram-S, the first privately developed rocket from India. The suborbital mission — part of the company’s drive to commercialise space technologies — reached an altitude of nearly 90 km, carrying multiple payloads. This achievement marks a shift from government-led space launches toward a more vibrant private space launch ecosystem, enabled by liberalised space policies and support from regulatory bodies like IN-SPACe.
Skyroot is at the forefront of developing 3D-printed rocket engines and reusable launch technologies, which could drastically reduce the cost of satellite deployment and make space more accessible for scientific, commercial, and defence missions. This launch has stirred excitement among Indian engineers and investors, inspiring confidence in India’s capability to compete in the global commercial space sector.
