According to a recent report, by 2025 India is predicted to enter a “smartphone-era” for cars — with cars offering 5G M2M connectivity, on-device generative AI, cloud connectivity and other high-tech features. This means that many vehicles sold in India may soon be far more than mechanical transport — they may turn into connected gadgets, offering features like smart navigation, real-time communication, AI-powered assistants, and cloud-based services.
For consumers, this could mean a massive upgrade in driving experience — seamless connectivity, smart features, and integration with other devices. For automakers and tech firms, it suggests a pivot: vehicles are no longer just cars, but mobile computing platforms. However, this transition also opens up challenges — data security, privacy, and the need for robust infrastructure (5G, cloud, AI-ready software) — which India will need to address to make this vision a reality.
