The long-awaited Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway, a 262–263 km greenfield highway designed to slash travel time between the two metros to about three hours, is now projected to be completed by mid-2026 after several delays. Construction on major sections cutting across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu is progressing, with reports indicating the full Tamil Nadu portions — including key stretches such as Gudipala–Walajahpet, Walajahpet–Arakkonam, Arakkonam–Kancheepuram, and Kancheepuram–Sriperumbudur — are moving toward phased readiness over late 2025 and into early 2026.
Despite earlier targets being postponed due to land acquisition challenges, utility shifting and regulatory approvals, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) now expects the remaining expressway segments to be ready by mid-2026, unlocking faster connectivity for commuters and freight between Chennai and Bengaluru. Once fully operational, this access-controlled corridor will not only enhance passenger travel but also significantly boost economic activity and logistics efficiency across Tamil Nadu and neighbouring southern states.
