India’s tech regulators have published a draft regulatory framework targeting artificial intelligence content, particularly deepfake audio and video, to address the rise of synthetic-media misinformation. The proposals include mandatory labelling of AI-generated visuals/audio, traceability obligations for content intermediaries, and new due-diligence norms for social-media platforms.
This initiative signals that Delhi is moving beyond reactive measures and aiming for a proactive regime in the AI governance space. For tech firms, startups and creators operating in India, the rules suggest increased compliance requirements—but also a clearer legal foundation which could drive wider adoption of trusted AI services.
