Indian Railways is developing the Vande Bharat sleeper trainset, a semi-high-speed, long-distance electric multiple unit (EMU) designed to replace the Rajdhani Express. Based on the existing Vande Bharat trainset, the sleeper version features sleeping berths and enhanced onboard amenities suitable for long-distance journeys. The first prototype was launched in September 2024, with operations expected to commence after three months.
The introduction of these sleeper trains aims to significantly reduce travel time on long-distance routes, offering passengers a modern and comfortable alternative to traditional trains. With features like automatic doors, regenerative braking, and advanced safety systems, the Vande Bharat sleeper trains are poised to transform rail travel in India, providing a faster and more efficient mode of transportation.
