Marking a first in India, the Bhopal Division of the West Central Railway has implemented optical fibre-based signal control technology at the Nishatpura Yard. This innovative system replaces traditional multi-wire signal systems, which were prone to delays and operational issues, with a more reliable and efficient setup. Utilizing a ‘Lamp Output Module,’ the new technology transmits signal instructions from the control center to trackside signals via optical fibres, enhancing speed, security, and reliability.
Currently deployed at specific signal posts, this advancement is part of a broader modernization effort across the Bhopal-Bina railway section, expected to be completed by June 2026. Benefits include improved safety, punctuality, fail-safe component redundancy, temperature-controlled equipment, and easier maintenance due to reduced hardware. This development positions Indian Railways at the forefront of railway signaling innovation, promising a more efficient and secure rail network for the future.
