Here’s a tasty homemade version of Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) — crispy, juicy, and glazed in that signature sweet, spicy, sticky sauce 😋🔥
📝 Ingredients
For the Chicken:
- 500g chicken (boneless thighs or wings)
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar or lemon juice
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup cornflour
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
For the Sauce:
- 2 tbsp gochujang (Korean red chili paste)
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp honey or brown sugar
- 1 tbsp garlic (minced)
- 1 tsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
- Toasted sesame seeds and chopped spring onions for garnish
🍳 Method
Step 1: Marinate the Chicken
- Mix chicken with salt, pepper, garlic powder, vinegar/lemon juice, and egg.
- Let it sit for 20–30 mins in the fridge.
Step 2: Coat & Fry
- Mix cornflour and flour in a bowl.
- Dredge chicken in the dry mix.
- Heat oil and double fry:
- First fry: 5–6 mins at medium heat.
- Second fry: 2–3 mins on high heat till extra crispy.
- Drain on paper towels.
Step 3: Make the Glaze
- In a pan, heat a little water and add all sauce ingredients.
- Simmer until thick and glossy (2–3 mins).
Step 4: Toss & Serve
- Toss crispy chicken in the sauce while still hot.
- Garnish with sesame seeds and spring onions.
💡 Tips:
- For extra crunch: use chilled batter or add a pinch of baking soda to the flour mix.
- No gochujang? Sub with 1 tbsp chili garlic sauce + 1/2 tbsp tomato paste + a pinch of sugar.
