📝 Recipe: Green Gram (Cherupayar) and Chicken Curry
🧂 Ingredients:
- Chicken – 250g (small pieces)
- Green gram (Cherupayar) – ½ cup (soaked for 2–3 hours)
- Onion – 1 large (sliced)
- Tomato – 1 (chopped)
- Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tbsp
- Green chili – 1 (slit)
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Coriander powder – 1½ tsp
- Garam masala – ½ tsp
- Chili powder – 1 tsp (adjust to taste)
- Curry leaves – a few
- Coconut oil – 1½ tbsp
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Water – as needed
👩🍳 Preparation Steps:
- Pressure Cook Cherupayar:
Cook the soaked green gram with a pinch of turmeric and salt – 2 whistles. - Marinate Chicken (Optional):
Mix chicken with turmeric, chili powder, and salt. Set aside for 15 minutes. - Sauté Base Masala:
In a pan, heat coconut oil. Add mustard seeds, let them splutter.
Add onion, green chili, curry leaves, and sauté till golden.
Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté until raw smell goes. - Add Tomatoes & Spices:
Add chopped tomatoes. Once soft, add coriander powder, chili powder, and garam masala. - Cook Chicken:
Add marinated chicken and stir well. Cook covered for 10–12 mins, add water if needed. - Add Cooked Green Gram:
Once chicken is cooked, add the pressure-cooked cherupayar.
Mix well and simmer for 5 minutes. Adjust salt. - Finish:
Garnish with fresh curry leaves. Serve hot.
