Apple has quietly shifted a substantial portion of its iPhone production to India, with around 14% of global output now coming from Tamil Nadu’s Foxconn–Tata plants. This local ramp-up not only circumvents U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports but also supports India’s drive toward self-reliance. With subsidies and infrastructure support, the nation is fast becoming Apple’s primary manufacturing hub outside China.
Industry analysts say this share could double by end of 2025, and India may soon replicate the entirety of Apple’s supply chain ecosystem currently based in China. While challenges like regulatory delays and quality control persist, the success of high-end model assembly speaks volumes about India’s manufacturing evolution.
