This homemade chemmeen (prawn) masala powder enhances the flavor of seafood dishes. It’s easy to make and can be stored for future use!
Ingredients:
- Dried prawns (Chemmeen) – ½ cup
- Dry red chilies – 5-6
- Coriander seeds – 2 tbsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Black pepper – 1 tsp
- Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Garlic (dry or fresh) – 4-5 cloves
- Curry leaves – A handful
- Salt – As needed
Instructions:
- Dry Roast the Ingredients:
- Heat a pan and dry roast the dried prawns on low flame until crispy. Keep aside.
- In the same pan, dry roast red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin, black pepper, fennel seeds, garlic, and curry leaves until fragrant.
- Cool & Grind:
- Allow the roasted ingredients to cool completely.
- Grind them into a fine or coarse powder based on preference.
- Store:
- Transfer the masala powder to an airtight container. Store in a cool, dry place for up to a month.
How to Use:
- Add 1-2 teaspoons of this masala while preparing prawn curry, prawn fry, or seafood gravies for enhanced taste and aroma.
