Easy Homemade Prawn Masala Powder

This homemade chemmeen (prawn) masala powder enhances the flavor of seafood dishes. It’s easy to make and can be stored for future use!

Ingredients:

  • Dried prawns (Chemmeen) – ½ cup
  • Dry red chilies – 5-6
  • Coriander seeds – 2 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Black pepper – 1 tsp
  • Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Garlic (dry or fresh) – 4-5 cloves
  • Curry leaves – A handful
  • Salt – As needed

Instructions:

  1. Dry Roast the Ingredients:
    • Heat a pan and dry roast the dried prawns on low flame until crispy. Keep aside.
    • In the same pan, dry roast red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin, black pepper, fennel seeds, garlic, and curry leaves until fragrant.
  2. Cool & Grind:
    • Allow the roasted ingredients to cool completely.
    • Grind them into a fine or coarse powder based on preference.
  3. Store:
    • Transfer the masala powder to an airtight container. Store in a cool, dry place for up to a month.

How to Use:

  • Add 1-2 teaspoons of this masala while preparing prawn curry, prawn fry, or seafood gravies for enhanced taste and aroma.
