India to Release Administrative Rules for the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act by Sept 28, 2025

ndia’s government, through Electronics & IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, has announced that the administrative rules for the Digital Personal Data Protection Act will be released by 28 September 2025. This is a major milestone—while the DPDP Act itself has been passed, its implementation depends heavily on detailed rules and guidelines that will define how personal data is collected, processed, stored, shared, and protected.

These rules are expected to address concerns about privacy, data sovereignty, consent, obligations for data fiduciaries and processors, and redress mechanisms. It marks an important step in India’s ambition to build a legal and regulatory framework that protects citizens’ data while enabling innovation in AI, cloud computing, and digital services. Businesses will have to align quickly to comply.
