Annual Pulse Polio Immunisation camp On 19th January

Otherwise known as poliomyelitis, polio is an infectious disease that is caused by poliovirus.
It is shocking to mention that in 0.5% of polio affected cases there would be muscle weakness and this would lead to inability to move and it could take place in few hours or in few days of time. Important point is weakness normally involves legs but sometimes it also involves muscles of head, neck etc.
This disease spreads from one person to other through food or water containing human faeces. It must be taken into account that to prevent this infectious disease polio immunisation is held and it is a campaign established by the government of India.
The latest news is the TN government would hold the annual pulse polio immunisation camp on 19th January 2020 for the sake of more than 71 lakh children. This camp would be held as a part of nation- wide campaign. In one phase, mass vaccination drives would be held and the next 7 days would be for mop up. This was according to Mr. Kolandaisamy, director of public health.
It is worthy to note that the year 2020 would be Tamil Nadu’s 16th polio free year and it is now brought out that the state would conduct intensive campaigns at more than 50000 booths that would be set up at PHCs, government hospitals, state medical college hospitals, ICDS centres, schools and noon meal centres etc. For the purpose of covering children who are travelling and those living in inaccessible places, TN would have transit booths and mobile teams.
