Chennai High Court bans online crackers sales

The very word of the festival Deepavali brings  2 things promptly to the mind – the crackers and the sweets.
Presently, the crackers and the sweets Trading agencies have opened online sales on the web/internet.
As the prices are much lesser when compared to the prices quoted in actual shops, a large number of customers have ordered the purchase of cracker online. It is gathered that there are several trading agencies doing this online crackers sale – because of this, the retail crackers traders, who buy wholesale from Sivakasi and set up their retail shops, are hugely affected in their business.
It is also gathered that the banned Chinese crackers items are also sold online which will adversely affect the Indian crackers manufacturing industry.
It is worth noting that in order to set up a crackers sales shop, lots of rules and regulations as per the Fireworks Act. Fire-proof roofs and doors, construction without any electric power leaks, and various other regulations are to be checked by the Departments of fire-fighting and the Polices and licence to set up shop will be allowed only after this.
However, a petitioner, Dawood, filed a petition in the Chennai High Court that the sales online does not follow any of these regulations which may be a violation of the Fireworks Act and hence demanded that online crackers sales must be banned.
This petition was taken up for enquiry by the Chennai High Court today (Tuesday, 16th October), The court has banned the online sales of crackers and adjourned the 2nd enquiry to 15th November.
